Complex PTSD (sometimes called "Disorder of Extreme Stress") is found among individuals who have been exposed to prolonged traumatic circumstances, especially during childhood, such as childhood sexual abuse. These individuals often are diagnosed with borderline or antisocial personality disorder or dissociative disorders. They exhibit behavioral difficulties (such as impulsivity, aggression, sexual acting out, eating disorders, alcohol/drug abuse, and self-destructive actions), extreme emotional difficulties (such as intense rage, depression, or panic) and mental difficulties (such as fragmented thoughts, dissociation, and amnesia). The treatment of such patients often takes much longer, may progress at a much slower rate, and requires a sensitive and highly structured treatment program delivered by a team of trauma specialists.

I just ran across this post although it was an older post it spoke to me. I was a child of parental abuse and have had an eating disorder, diagnosed with DID, borderline personality, PTSD and MDD at different points in my life. I also was raped by my psychiatrist in 1989. I have fragmented thoughts and trouble with relationships, flashbacks and nightmares. I am lucky to have great docs now. Treatment takes time and is intensive. Nobody who has suffered trauma can truly just walk away or get over it without some help, it will always come back to visit you.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you are finding the proper support here in the forums. It is a great community of people who want to help. We also have great therapists, http://www.mytherapycouch.com/online_therapy_session/ which I know would be helpful to you in your specific situation. Online counseling allows for reflection and compounded resolution construction over time.

If I could afford on line counseling in addition to my twice a week visits now I'd be on it in a minute, it's weekends like this that are the hardest. Both of my docs are out of town I wouldn't dream of calling them on their break they need a break!

The therapists on here are only $24 right now. A fraction of the cost of face-to-face therapy. And they are not on vacation today

I just joined this site and wanted to ask - I just posted a post in the main ptsd forum about my traumatic experience. After reading this I am wandering if this is what I am experiencing now - 4 years later, as most of my issues now are regarding my relationship and centered around my father rather than the event and I was abused by my father starting at a very young age and lasting until I was nearly an adult.
