Top 5 Depression Cures

HERE ARE TOP FIVE DEPRESSION 'CURES'!

If you are suffering with depression know that you are not alone! Depression knows no limits and affects millions of people every year. There are a few steps you can take to help yourself feel better and more in control. Here are our top five depression busters:

  1. 1. EXERCISE – RUN, WALK, JOG, DANCE, HULA HOOP…. ANYTHING!
Exercise causes your body to release endorphins such as serotonin which is the body’s very own anti-depressant. After you exercise, you will actually feel better due to the release of these endorphins. And it doesn’t have to mean hours of slogging in the gym! A brisk walk for 40 minutes 3 times a week can make a huge difference in your mood.
  2. 2. ST. JOHNS WORT
Many people have reported feeling better after trying St. Johns Wort. This is an ancient herb that has been around for centuries and has been used to improve mood and wellbeing. It can be found in most health food stores and can be bought in tablet form. Please make sure to consult your healthcare practitioner before taking any supplements.
  3. 3. AVOID SUGAR!
Sugar is dangerous for our bodies – when we consume too much sugar we poison our bodies. You may feel great for a few hours and then find yourself crashing a few hours later. This unhealthy cycle can perpetuate the depression you feel. Replace sugar rich snacks with healthy snacks such as nuts, dried sunflower seeds and raisins which are all known to be natural brain boosters.
  4. 4. DO ONE THING EVERY DAY THAT YOU ENJOY OR HAVE GOOD MEMORIES OF
Thinking is often doing and depression can stand in the way of getting things done or even doing things we enjoy. Set a goal which allows you to take time out each day to enjoy one activity. It can be reading in the garden or listening to music. Or perhaps you might chat with a friend whose company you enjoy. Depression can cause people to hibernate or avoid doing things they used to enjoy. This can perpetuate the depression. It may seem hard at first but once you try it you may feel better!
  5. 5. ADOPT A PET!
Animals make great companions, mostly because they offer unconditional love for very little in return! Dogs can be very loving and make great walking companions. People have reported feeling better when they come home to the loving enthusiasm of a dog or cat. You will be less likely to feel lonely if you have a pet at home. If you are afraid of the commitment then you can offer to pet sit for friends or relatives. Try it!
